The Poverty-Environment Initiative (PEI) is a joint global programme of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It aims to promote pro-poor development and sustainable development. These two terminologies are usually discussed separately as you see in a series of discussion of post-2015 agenda and sustainable development goals. The video clips below describe visually the unique project.

The Poverty-Environment Initiative (PEI) is a joint global programme of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) working in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Europe. The PEI programme supports national government efforts to mainstream pro-poor development and sustainable environmental management into both national and local planning and budgeting processes. At the core of the PEI programme lays the firm belief that poverty reduction and environmental conservation – two of our most urgent global challenges today – need to be tackled through an integrated approach in order to bring about sustainable economic growth, equity, and human well-being.

The PEI Programme in Thailand strives to acquire evidence-based information and findings, and to present these findings, learning processes and capacity in understanding P-E linkages through the implementation of the project (learning by doing) in the forms of evidence-based policy recommendations in order to systematically integrate Poverty-Environment linkages into the various relevant systems and mechanisms.
